Tatton Park is an historic English country estate located close to Knutsford. Containing a host of attractions such as the magnificent Mansion, acres of woodland and fine gardens to explore, a farm plus hundreds of events held there each year, Tatton Park is one of the most complete and popular days out with tourists visiting the area.
Tatton Hall, the Mansion, Old Hall and the estate was the property of the Egerton family going back around 400 years. In 1958 it was all bequeathed to the Natural Trust and is looked after by Cheshire East Council. The stunning range of history, listed buildings, gardens and parkland make the Tatton estate not only an extremely attractive tourist attraction but also ideal for corporate events and weddings with many a local bride wanting to be married there.
The Mansion sits at the heart of the estate noted by its elevated position. Wander around it to see life as it was for the Egertons in their English country pile. This includes the permanent Maurice Egerton exhibition plus other exhibitions which are often held in the Stewards Room. Be sure not to miss out the Old Hall, which dates back to the 15th century and is said to be haunted.
In addition to exploring the buildings, gardens and parklands you will also want to take in the farm which boasts rare breeds accreditation to help with ongoing work in that arena. The kids can even feed some of the animals and it is possible to have a birthday party at the farm.
As you can see, Tatton Park offers a host of activities and attractions for all regardless of age. The park regularly wins awards and is open pretty much all year round. It is easy to find too being close to both the M6 and M56 motorways. For those who prefer not to drive, the estate is within walking distance of Knutsford railway station.
All sorts of events are held in the grounds throughout the year. These range from picnic concerts in the summer featuring the Halle Orchestra to classic car shows to antique fairs. Perhaps the most well known event at Tatton Park is the Royal Horticultural Society flower show. This draws massive crowds and is due to be held this year (2012) from July 18th through to July 22nd and include finalists of the RHS National Young Designer of the Year Competition.
There is undoubtedly something for everyone at Tatton Park so do plan it in to your itinerary should you be visiting Cheshire. There are many other fine tourist attractions in the area and you are close to many other places to see and explore such as the city of Chester and all its Roman connections or Liverpool if shopping the Beatles are more your thing.
